Chapter 3: The Strategy

TranscrIpt:

Hi! Welcome to this week’s training! I’m Sherri Wilson, owner of Genius Communication, the place for all things business. And I wanted to recommend my two free courses, Launch Your Brand and Increase Persuasion Skills. Too many business owners struggle with knowing how to brand an existing business or a startup. This answers the immediate questions you might have.

The persuasion training is three-part training that you can do in 30 minutes, you’ll learn how to craft your communication in a way that it almost seems like you're reading your client's mind, how to deal with doubtful and angry clients, and three strategies for your digital content! If you’ve ever had something really good to say but didn’t know how to say it or it fell flat when you did, then you know the frustration of ineffective communication. There are science-backed methods you can use without even needing to say a word ( an introvert’s dream)! Persuasion is a learned skill. And, I promise, this free training will help.

Today, we are starting chapter three of my financial freedom journey. And it’s in this chapter that I got my strategy. Now, I want to warn you. My faith in Jesus is going to be very plainly talked about. I will also get into the supernatural aspect of my strategy as well. For those of you that might not be of the Christian faith, you are my friends, too, and I’d love for you to keep going with me.

The Business Strategy

In chapter two, I discussed a dream I dreamt twice with small changes. Well, I have another dream. It was a very weird dream, but crucial to my freedom. Let me share.

In the dream, I was at a church meeting. There was a man with a specific ministry I enjoyed walking around with a clipboard. He’d go up to pregnant women, write something on the clip board, and then they’d get up and go to a door. I knew they were going to have their baby. In the dream, I was 9 months pregnant (or at least I felt like I was). He came to me, wrote on his clipboard, and then said, “Yours will be delayed. But Genius will oversee its birth.”

That was it. Fast forward a few years later. I’m sitting in my office praying. Suddenly, I felt a cool wind in the room. I checked the window, which was closed. It was the time of year when it’s cool but not enough to have the heater on, but a bit too cool to open the window. I checked the vents. Nothing was coming out. At this point, I wondered if it was God’s presence. He’s described as a breeze or wind in the Bible at times. I sat down and waited. It continued swirling about me for 45 minutes. During that time, I received my business model of creating an online course to help others with communication and persuasion.

I then felt that I needed to look up the word “genius,” because I remembered the dream from years earlier while I was sitting there. I discovered that it was a god or angel that oversaw births! I knew that Holy Spirit was letting me know that I’d have angelic help starting and building my business, hence, the name Genius Communication.

Not long after that is when I realized how dire our finances were and began looking at numbers, working a budget, and dealing with my relationship with money. I also started studying the Scriptures on wealth, building wealth, wisdom, and more. I discovered so much that is taught from pulpits isn’t scriptural and often religious or greed-driven. I learned that God wants to bless me and for me to enjoy what I do for a living. I learned that saving money isn’t a demonstration of not trusting God. I learned that wise people build wealth and don’t have to fear economic downturns. It was a wonderful time.

My One Thing

It was also during this time, the book, “The One Thing,” was recommended. I read it and from there took time management to a whole new level. I then focused for five months on developing my course. I learned how to run Facebook ads. I built my website (first version was embarrassing). I started developing my brand and learning what that even looked like. I had a goal. I had a vision. This was going to be my wealth builder, but I needed money now.

GEt a job

Let me take you back to chapter one, where I was sitting on my couch devastated by the news that I was only going to make $200 that month. Out of frustration, I blurted out that I was going to have to get a job. My client but also great friend went to work for me. She had a good friend who owns a jewelry store and needed someone trustworthy. She talked to her, we met, and I was hired for a little over minimum wage.

The work itself was perfect for me to hone my persuasion skills. The things I’d learn at her store helped me refine my courses and the training I take my clients and their staffs through. But here I was getting a job for a little above minimum wage (not unfair at all for the job) at the age of 46. I was so embarrassed, I didn’t want to tell my clients that I worked there. It took me a few weeks to adjust and get over my ego. One way I did that was tell my clients I had a job. I worked that job for three years and put it all toward my debt. I was able to go to one day a week in May 2021 because I love working there. I didn’t want to give it up completely.

In the meantime, my local clientele grew and grew where I could have quit my job before, but I made a commitment to myself and my boss that I would work there until my debt was paid. She would “fluff” my hours (she called it) to help me. She is a very kindhearted person.

to be continued…

That was my strategy. I also had to find a way to pay off my debt that worked for me. That’s for next week.
