Digital Marketing: My Facebook Ads Strategy

Welcome to this episode of Work Your Biz Like A Boss! This episode I want to dive into how I use Facebook ads for both my clients and my own business and podcast.

ARE THEY WORTH IT?

I get asked this a lot. Yes! Facebook ads are worth it. Personally, I don’t really like Facebook’s business model. We are the product not the customer meaning that Facebook’s bulk of income comes from presenting US with ads based on our Internet and Facebook activity. The true “clients” or “customers” of Facebook are those that purchase the ads. I also don’t like their politics. But they are a necessary “evil.” And for small businesses on shoe string budgets, Facebook ads are still the most cost effective advertising there is.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND?

My recommendation is minimum $5.00 a day for two weeks, which is roughly $70 a month. You can spend more, but don’t go over Facebook’s recommended amount. It’s a waste of money if you do; therefore, spend anywhere from five to their suggested amount for the best results.

HOW LONG SHOULD I RUN?

I usually run my ad for two weeks at a time to prevent ad fatigue. I have found that typically running at least one ad a month for two weeks a month for six months generates results. Some businesses might take longer and some shorter. It really depends on your business product or service and your target market. Local businesses, especially, tend to see results in about six months. Online-based businesses can take a bit longer because the market is more expansive and difficult to break through.

WHAT CONTENT SHOULD I USE IN MY ADS

I recommend that you create three different ads using a single image for one ad, a video for another, and a carousel of images for the third ad. Run one ad each month and at the end of three months, see which performed better and then create more ads like it. It can take time to figure out if it’s the type of content or the ad copy that is attracting the most results but that’s what Facebook marketing is—research and development. But once you know what works, you’ve got it…until changes in FB algorithms. 🤦‍♀️

Think outside of the box. Use Boomerangs. Create videos that will STOP THE SCROLL. Offer value even in your ad. Send them to a free resource that will make their lives easier. Include your pet. Study other ads that you like and break down what you like about them then create something similar for your business.

SIMPLE STRATEGY

Let me pull it all together by steps:

  1. Spend at least $5.00 a day for two weeks running your ad.

  2. Create three different ads—an image, a video, and a carousel.

  3. Alternate each ad each month for three months and evaluate which ones did the best and create more like those.

  4. Run your ads no less than six months to start getting results if a local business. Longer if an online business.

  5. Rinse and repeat.

  6. And, finally, refresh your ads every once in a while with a new image or video but if what you’re running now is working, don’t mess with it!

SUMMARY

I recorded a series of lunch and learns I did at my local Chamber of Commerce on everything about Facebook ads. They can be daunting for sure. But head over and watch that free training. No email required. 😀
