My Go-To Keto Snacks
Transcript:
As I shared in my blog, “I Finally Figured Out My Weight Loss Formula,” eating keto does take some getting used to because it’s a totally different way of eating. I shared some of the tricks I did to avoid keto flu and how long it took to start seeing results. In this post, I want to share my go-to keto snacks because that was the most challenging part of eating keto in the beginning.
Dark Chocolate
I don’t have as big of a sweet tooth as I did in the past, but there’s nothing like a piece of chocolate, especially with my morning coffee. And I used to hate dark chocolate until I had Epstein-Barr several years ago and had to cut out all sugar because carbs triggered panic attacks! Now I love it! The best dark chocolate for keto eating due to lower carbs and sugar content is Ghiradelli Intense 86% Dark Chocolate. I have 2-3 pieces a day. Two when I first started.
Nuts
Raw almonds, pecans, or any true nut is a great snack option. I eat a small handful each day, usually with my cheese. Interestingly, when I added nuts to my diet, the weight started melting off. That and bacon. Peanuts are NOT nuts; they’re legumes.
Cheese
I. Love. Cheese. I used to avoid it, but now I can eat it every day! I love mild cheddar cheese and usually have two pieces a day. Cheese is a staple in keto, so you’ll find it in a lot of recipes. You might need to limit your cheese slices if you eat a lot recipes with cheese in them, especially at first.
Atkins Endulge Treat Caramel Nut Chew Bar
These are like eating a Snickers! OMG! So yummy! They have other options that are fine as well, but these are my favorite. I have two a day. These are great because portable.
Green Olives
I eat 10 green olives a day, usually with my cheese. If you don’t like olives, then have an extra slices of cheese.
In Summary
That’s it! The main thing is to choose high-fat, low-carb snacks. You only want 20 grams of net carbs a day to eat keto and have results (net carbs are fiber subtracted from total carbs). And, believe me, it is easy to go over! Once you reach your ideal weight, increase your carbs until you start gaining weight. Then back down your carbs until you’ve stabilized. For most, it’s 50 net carbs a day. For some of us, it might be less. Until then, these snacks will keep you full and not push your net carbs over for the day.
