How I FINALLY Got Rid of My Acne

I never knew as a teenager that acne can follow you right into adulthood like a bad penny! I fully expected it to go away in my early 20’s or maybe 30’s as a worst case scenario. And, yet, here I was in my FORTIES fighting acne! What the heck?! I was thankful my face wasn’t covered with acne, but it was annoying that every single month, I’d get one to two pimples, usually on my chin, that would linger for several weeks and leave red spots. At the time I believed that it was hormonal since it was monthly. I was shocked to realize what was really causing it.

I’m not getting paid nor am I pushing skin care products. I simply want to share with you what was the root cause and the products I use. I will share my face routine on IG stories soon (follow me @sherriannewilson).

The Culprit

Here’s what caused my acne: dry skin.

I know! I was shocked, too! About three years ago, I had tried everything over the counter and was looking for some more options. One year, I attended a conference and saw a wonderful lady I’d met the previous year again and noticed that her skin glowed. Guys, it GLOWED! Absolutely gorgeous! I immediately asked what she was doing. She said she was using Rodan and Fields. I had no idea who Rodan and Fields were but I wanted to try it!

Again, I am NOT a Rodan and Fields distributor and not every RandF product worked actually, but it was through this process that I discovered my problem. I told her my problem, and she put me on the Blemish line. My face got worse! She consulted with RandF and that’s when she discovered that many times acne isn’t hormonal or your diet. It’s actually dry skin that needs to be healed from years of abuse of trying to FIX it.

I was skeptical. First, my skin was only dry in the winter with an oily t-zone. In the summer, my skin wasn’t dry at all. She asked me if I broke out as much in the winter as the summer. Nope. And that’s proof my skin isn’t dry. In the summer it’s even oilier. She explained that oily skin could be a sign that my skin was dry. I wasn’t convinced but was willing to try. We switched from Blemish to the Soothe line, which is designed to heal skin and balance moisture. I’ve only had two pimples in three years!

Budget Friendly Skin Care

Once I figured out the true cause of my acne—dry skin not hormones—I researched less expensive options. Rodan and Fields is pricey. Our finances had taken a huge hit when my husband had to close his business. I spoke with my consultant, and she said the must have was Soothe Step 2. Other than that, I could do what I needed to do. I agreed (I did try other products without step 2 and had acne again). With that foundation in place, I found some low-cost and mid-cost products that work perfect!

1.     Basis Sensitive Skin Bar at Walmart for about $3.

2.     Witch hazel and Young Living Tea Tree Essential Oil as my toner. Witch Hazel is $1.98 at Walmart. Tea Tree is $35.20 retail and $26.75 wholesale if you’re a distributor. It lasts 4 months or longer. I use one drop of tea tree oil on a cotton ball and then add witch hazel to the cotton ball and apply.

3.     Soothe Step 2 in the morning. $87 retail and $78 is subscribed to PC Perks.

4.     Soothe Step 4 Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 in the morning but any good natural sunscreen works. I just love it. $43 retail and $38 PC Perks.

5.     Josie Maran Whipped Argon Face Butter. $42 at Sephora. This is a must for me! Even on Soothe 2, I have to use this in the winter or I get pimples (that’s what caused the two in three years) I apply it at night in the spring and summer and twice a day in the fall and winter.

In Summary

That’s my acne regimen. I use other products for anti-aging that I’ll write about later. But if you suffer with acne caused from dry skin, two must-have products are Soothe Step 2 and Josie Maran face butter.
